Burnout

The gradual build up of stress. It often shows itself as a progressive wearing down over time.

Symptoms may include:

  • feeling low
  • feeling cynical
  • feeling bored
  • loss of compassion
  • feeling discouraged
  • physical complaints.

 

More likely if there is:

  • professional isolation
  • emotional drain from empathising
  • difficult people to work with
  • long hours with few resources
  • ambiguous success
  • unreciprocated giving and attentiveness
  • failure to live up to one’s own expectations for effecting positive change.
